A little bit about 99designs

99designs is the world’s global creative platform that makes it easy for clients and designers to work together to create designs they love. Our mission is to champion creativity to create opportunities for people around the world. Founded in 2008, 99designs has grown from a small, online forum into a worldwide community of talented designers that is now the go-to solution for businesses, agencies, and individuals.

We believe that research is paramount. It shapes our ideas, improves our understanding, and makes our outcomes better for end users. We are looking for another UX Researcher (or maybe you go by the name of Design Researcher!) to play a central role in helping to identify and prove/disprove assumptions, recognize user needs, goals, and mental models to further establish and own the research component of UX processes.

The design team includes Product Designers and UX Researchers, who work across the end to end experience for both clients and creators. Each UX Researcher is embedded within a ‘Group’ who focus on key parts of the user journey.

As a UX Researcher a large aspect of your role will be to use your expert experience and natural curiosity to research and identify gaps in the 99designs’ experience, and clearly articulate your findings and recommendations to ensure a positive experience with their products. Achieving this will require a large amount of cross-functional collaboration with the likes of Designers, Support, Product Managers, and more.

You’ll have a love for building a deep understanding of 99designs’ customers and end-users; their behaviours, attitudes and motivations, challenges and pain points.  And you can bring rigour to projects and take the lead on planning research, using a variety of research methods (usability testing, surveys, interviews, card sorting, diary studies etc), and communicating findings back to the project team, creating actionable and timely insights to guide work.

A little bit about you…..This opportunity would suit someone that gets a kick out of making tangible contributions to the continued innovation of the company and the improvement of their research capabilities within the design team.

We’re on the look-out for Researchers that are passionate about user-centred design and accessibility, with a minimum of 2 years experience working as a UX Researcher.  You will have experience in planning and conducting a range of research methods including contextual enquiry, depth interviews, diary studies, remote usability testing, creating/facilitating workshops, and others as required.

Why 99designs?

As we continue to scale, we are committed to building an inclusive and diverse team that reflects the communities in which we operate. We want people to feel like they belong and can bring their whole selves to work. Our aim is to continue to foster a collaborative environment with a keen focus on innovation, growth and ownership. Below are just some of the things we do to support our people:

  • Career development and learning in whatever way suits you! Think paid R&D days, courses, formal and informal mentoring, conferences… however you learn best we’ve got you covered.
  • Culture of workplace flexibility and wellness. Study? Parent juggling? Everyone has different needs and the business will support you in the best way we can. Some people work remotely, some with flex start and finish times...the common thread is it’s all about your individual needs.
  • Support for working parents. Paid parental leave policy for both primary and secondary carers, which can be accessed part time and is in addition to government payments.
  • Support for the community. In addition to 99nonprofits, 99designs provide one paid volunteer day a year for you to support a charity and the community as you see fit!
  • We’re also a Proud Code Like a Girl internship partner, host of Girl Geek Academy hack days, & maintain popular open source projects, and support a range of other community groups. It’s in our DNA.
