Not for the faint hearted, that’s for sure! A cool product gig, with a big serving of product planning, a dollop of organisation wide influencing, and a sprinkling of agile coaching.
And no, today, I’m not talking cakes. But I am talking about newly created roles, to help define how we work and deliver great product planning and ongoing progression with OKRs as we scale and integrate with Vistaprint.
So what is the role all about I hear you ask?
There’s so much goodness here, it’s hard to summarise just how far reaching the role is and all the cool stuff that you’ll get involved with. Here at 99designs we have built a reputation for great products and a standout product culture. Well now we’re growing, and we want to be sure that our product culture is not only maintained as we scale, but enhanced.
But it’s not solely about further enhancing and defining our product ethos and values. Partnering with senior leaders in Product, Design and Engineering, you will be central to delivering a seamless planning experience. You will help to communicate company goals driving alignment across the organisation. You will develop inclusive practices for our global product development team and identify and roll out systems to elevate product processes. Phew! Told you there was a lot to sink your teeth into!
But there’s more. Coaching, particularly in agile product development, forms another key part of the role. Working across the organisation to ask - how do we want to build products? How do we impart our product philosophies and values to teams? How do we evolve and learn new skills, and how do we synthesise customer data to make more informed decisions?
A little about you
You’ll have the innate ability to see the bigger picture and also have an eye for detail, and you know how to wrap structure around uncertainty. You will have a passion for coaching, and collaboration, and have a willingness to try new approaches.
As an experienced product practitioner, you will have excellent knowledge of agile development frameworks, and bring a passion for human centred design and a history of engaging across product, engineering and design teams to build and consolidate best practice.
Perhaps you’ve even had an engineering career prior to moving to product management. Whatever your background is, a humble nature, no ego approach, and asking the question why? Or why not?, comes natural to you. You understand that everyone wants things done, and you can master the balancing of competing needs, and you have the ability to stay focused where the most value is to be gained.
We hold our values dearly - we believe in putting people first, and people helping other people to create their own success, that design has no borders, and that the journey should be fun. We want every person we engage with to be delighted with our service and experience.
As we continue to scale, we are committed to building an inclusive and diverse team that reflects the communities in which we operate. We want people to feel like they belong and can bring their whole selves to work. Our aim is to continue to foster a collaborative environment with a keen focus on innovation, growth and ownership.
We are on the journey to diversity - very transparent with our progress, and open to employee feedback. We believe that welcoming, supporting, and celebrating people from all experiences and backgrounds will enable them to build a stronger and more creative environment on our platform and within our own teams. Below are some of the things we do to support our people.
We have a culture of workplace flexibility
Some people work remotely, some people have start and flex finish times, we have part-time workers (4 day weeks, 9 day fortnights)... the common thread between it all is that it’s unique to each person's needs. Some people have joined with flex needs in their contract, and others have changed as their life and circumstances have! Some people are parents, some are studying at uni - it’s all about what your individual needs may be and how we can support you.
Support for working parents
In addition to flexibility to help make the juggle work for you, we have a paid parental leave policy to support new parents. We provide 6-14 weeks of company primary paid parental leave, depending on your tenure, which can be accessed part time, or however suits you. For secondary carers we offer 4 weeks of company paid parental leave which can also be accessed part time. This is all paid in addition to government funded paid parental leave. We are also proud to have had a 100% return to work rate to date!
+ heaps more, this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the WHY!
